 ********** PocketD Plus v3.1 - New features since v1.67  ***********

 PocketD  has  now been around for  about a year (as v1.67).  I  have
 listened  hard  to requests, and  have produced a new version  which
 incorporates most of the features that users wanted, and much more.

 The key improvements can be summarised as:

  1. Greatly improved ease-of-use, through the new program MenuD
  2. Increased power through 10% more options (now over 200)
  3. Improved speed
  4. Improved support of other products (4DOS, Novell, LANtastic, OS/2)
  5. Improved and completely re-worked documentation
  6. Hundreds of cosmetic improvements
  7. Security. PocketD v3.X now protects itself against Virus Attack

 ***** The New MENUD.EXE program (New with v3.0)

     This  60 menu/400 option program provides a menu-driven interface
     to the D.EXE program. This has got to be the fastest way to learn
     the  complex  command-line  interface.  It  also functions  as  a
     "Utility  Factory" for users who  know what they want. MENUD  can
     also  be used as the sole  means of access to D.EXE, providing  a
     safe and easy to use menu-driven tool.

 ***** 4DOS Support

     PocketD  now  supports 4DOS  comments during copy and move.  4DOS
     users  can  therefore  take advantage of PocketD's  substantially
     more  powerful  COPY/MOVE  facilities, without having to  abandon
     file comments.

 ***** OS/2 Support (New with v3.0)

     PocketD  now  supports  OS/2,  allowing  the full  OS/2  extended
     attributes  and  date/time  information  to  be  retained   after
     copy/move.  This  frees the  user from depending on the  somewhat
     restricted powers of OS/2's Program Manager.

 ***** Scanning of SFX (self-uncompressing archives) (v3.0 improved)

     PocketD adds SFX scanning to the existing ZIP, LZH, ZOO, ARC, PAK
     and  ARJ archive support.  These include SFX archives created  by
     PKZIP  1.X/2.X  (default and  compact types), LHA, LHARC and  ARJ
     (default  and  compact  types).  D.EXE now supports  12  distinct
     archive file formats!

 ***** Directory and Archive browsing

     PocketD  new  /Q  option  allows  user to freely  browse  through
     subdirectories    and   archives   (as   if   they   were    also
     subdirectories),  using a full-screen scrolling display. Combined
     with  PocketD's other options, this provides a browsing  facility
     of  exceptional power. PocketD's  file viewer with v3.0 has  also
     been very substantially improved.

 ***** Full scrolling template execution

     The  user  can  now  create  scrolling menus using  the  template
     facility,  making  PocketD  a very flexible command-line  menuing
     tool. See ARCVIEW.BAT for a good example of this.

 ***** More color control and easier configuration

     v3.0   provides  the  new  SETCOL.EXE  program  for  easy   color
     configuration.  v2.0 extends the number of configuration  options
     from  12 to 19, allowing  control of the colors used during  file
     viewing and also background colors.

 ***** Virus Protection

     PocketD  v3.0 will detect if it has been modified by a virus. You
     can  now  experiment  with  the  shareware version  with  greater
     confidence that you are not using an infected product. (Run MENUD
     to check the disk. It will report if D.EXE or MENUD.EXE have been
     tampered with.)

 ***** New Low Cost Group and Network Licence

     PocketD   now  provides  a  low  cost  bridge  between  Site  and
     multiple/single unit purchase which allows a network or office to
     use PocketD for as little as $144.

     Support for all date formats, not just US and UK.

     /~   now accepts a limit e.g. /~.30 (as option /K.30).
     @C   in string search now does not match TAB, CR and LF as CTRL chars.
     /e   sub-option  "." to allow single extension matches to show the
      full name.
     /qq  new query sub-option.
     /.n  inhibit scrolling (for v1.67 compatabiiity).
     /.i  inhibit use of file viewing option.
     Query "delete" now available when running templates.
     Case-insensitive search during file view.
     Support for DIET v1.44 exec.
     /q can now be used with /m.
     Templates can now be used when deleting files and during copy.
     D_COL can be extended by D_CO2 D_CO3 etc.. for more configuration.
     Buffered file output is up to 50 times faster.
     PocketD  can  now  be  aborted  by holding down the  CTRL  and
      LEFT-SHIFT  keys. This is preferable to using  CTRL+break
      which  could cause problems when PocketD is running other
      programs.

     There are also very many other minor improvements to PocketD.

     "f"  New sort option (separating files & dirs)
     /!K  /K now allows: All but 1st "n" matches
     /J   Allows the user to specify a "no matches" template.
     ":"  New TEMPLATE parameter for input of any ASCII value
     "x"  is a synonym for "e" in TEMPLATE (as SORT)
     Browsing has been greatly improved with the addition of horizontal
      scrolling  and  maintenance  of  markers in  multiple  files.
      Screen  handling has also  been optimised to improve  general
      screen updating during browsing.
     Extra  filespec "::" which matches "Free Space on drive", allowing
      the user to easily test free space left on any drive.
     String search during HEX file view now supported.
     String searching allows test for NULLs (+better display of HEX matching)
     Delete no longer drops off end of list after deletion of last match
     Buffered file input is up to 3 times faster.
     The default display is now color, not monochrome.

     Support  added for COMPACK v4.5 compression (shareware version  is
      now also compressed using it).
     Copy  option  "b"  now  less  zealous.  Under  some  circumstances
      re-named filenames were reported as "empty" names.
     Extra  protection  within  MenuD to prevent inappropriate  options
      from being mixed (for delete, view and copy).
     Copy now reports "skipped" in response to user skip.
     Corrections to errors in documentation for v3.0.
     Template $B "backspace" now accepts "n". e.g. $5B "5" backspaces.
     Additional options for registration in Canada.

     Backward  compatability is  very important, however the  following
     exception has been made.

     Bestfit  can  no  longer  be  used with /t (Bestfit's  use  of  /t
     irritated and confused more people than it helped).

 >>>>> Bug Fixes, including (among others):

     PocketD now fully works with LANtastic. (The new version has a
     workaround for a LANtastic 4.0 bug).

     Numeric  Template parameters formatted to a width >15 digits  used
     to crash. Formatting now truncates to a maximum of 40 digits.

     Shell out during file viewing (v2.0 bug) now no longer crashes.

     Colors now work correctly with /t format.

     Bug fix to prevent crash when viewing a file in hexadecimal during
     file copying (v3.0 bug).

     /q "Run all" now works (early v3.1 bug).

     ZIP 2.0  archive bug fix.  PocketD v3.0 saw what PKZIP v1.1  could
     see, extra empty files in recursed archives.
